Utah House passes bill to relinquish Navajo trust
Thursday, January 24, 2008

The Utah House passed a bill to relinquish the state's oversight of Navajo trust royalties.

Congress delegated trust duties to the state in 1933. The state is supposed to manage oil royalties for Navajos who live in San Juan County.

Tribal members have alleged mismanagement of their money. They want an accounting of at least $150 million in trust funds.

The bill goes on to the state Senate for consideration.
