Pueblos endorse New Mexico governor for president
Thursday, November 1, 2007

The 19 Pueblo tribes of New Mexico have endorsed Gov. Bill Richardson (D) for president.

The All Indian Pueblo Council, which represents the tribes, passed a resolution backing Richardson. It cited his experience as a Congressman, an Ambassador to the United Nations, a Cabinet member during the Clinton administration and as the state governor.

"At both the federal and state level, the Governor's tribal policy initiatives have been designed to strengthen government to government relations and address the challenges faced in our communities, such as economic development, infrastructure improvement, the protection of our cultures and languages, health care accessibility, and educational opportunities," the resolution stated.

Richardson is trailing other Democratic presidential contenders, including Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.
