Native teen latest murder victim in Winnipeg

The family of a 17-year-old Native girl who was found dead outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba, say police didn't respond when they reported her as missing.

Fonassa Bruyere was last seen getting into a car in Winnipeg, where she reportedly worked in the sex trade. Family members say they had to search for Bruyere themselves because police didn't take the case seriously.

Bruyere's body was found last week. The Southern Chiefs Organization called on Manitoba to start a task force to investigate murdered and missing women in the province.

In the last 25 years, at least 19 people who may have been involved in the sex trade have been killed in Winnipeg.
