Concrete plant defies Yakama Nation stop work order

A concrete plant in Washington plans to defy a stop work order issued by the Yakama Nation.

Central Pre-Mix, one of Yakima County's main sources of concrete, closed its doors on Monday. The tribe said the company lacked proper permits.

But Tami Cain, the company's operations manager said the tribe lacks jurisdiction. "We respect their ability to self-govern, but in this situation, it's our property," she told The Yakima Herald-Republic.

Officials in Yakama County, however, believe the tribe has jurisdiction over the plant.
