Former Navajo Nation chairman Peter MacDonald criticized tribal leaders for not addressing a reported incident of elder abuse.
MacDonald said it was outrageous that Rena Babbitt Lane, 84, could have been abused in her own home. "But I didn't see any outrage by our leaders in Window Rock," he said, The Gallup Independent reported.
President Joe Shirley, Jr. and Vice-President Frank Dayish, Jr. have not responded to the incident, which occurred last month, but a staffer said it was being looked int. Lane said she suffered a heart attack as a result of her mistreatment.
