Shakopee Tribe gets ready for annual powwow
Friday, August 25, 2006
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community in Minnesota is getting ready to kick off its annual wacipi, or powwow.
Glynn Crooks, the vice chairman of the tribe, serves as chairman of the wacipi. He attributes his dedication to his parents, who worked to preserve tribal culture after the tribe gained federal recognition in 1969.
The powwow kicks off tonight and runs through Sunday.
