Interview: Navajo president opposes vice president

In an interview with The Farmington Daily Times, Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. criticized Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. for running against him.

Shirley said it was "appropriate" for Dayish to run for president. He said Dayish should quit the Shirley administration.

"If I was to do it too, I would divorce myself from the current administration, not continue to work for the Navajo Nation or for the administration," Shirley told the paper. "Just get out there and cut the umbilical cord, sort of speak."

Dayish kicked off his campaign last week. He did so after being snubbed by Shirley, who announced his re-election without telling Dayish.
