Visitors to parks in New York will now know the role the Oneida Nation played in the Revolutionary War thanks to a three-year-old program financed by the tribe.

The Oneida Nation sided with the Colonists in the war for independence. Tribal members acted as scouts and fought in battles.

The tribe's Living History program shares this history with visitors of the Saratoga National Historical Park, the Fort Stanwix National Monument and other parks. Tribal members participate in re-enactments of the Revolutionary War, prompting some interesting questions.

"It used to bother me, but then you just kind of let it go," Kathy Kuhl, a member of the Oneida Nation, told The New York Times. "You can't stand up and say things like, 'Look, it's a white person.' You just grin and bear it, and educate. It's all you can do."
