Pombo schedules New York land claims hearing
Monday, July 11, 2005

Rep. Richard Pombo (R-California), the chairman of the House Resources Committee, has scheduled an oversight hearing on New York tribal land claims.

The hearing will take place Thursday, July 14, in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building at 10:00am. A witness list has not been published.

The status of land claims in the state is up in the air as a result of recent court decisions. The Cayuga land claim was dismissed entirely by the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. Settlements for several tribes, including three currently based in other states, are on hold due to a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court.
