State to transfer hatchery to Yakama Nation

The state of Washington plans to transfer a fish hatchery to the Yakama Nation in the first agreement of its kind.

The tribe will take over management of the Klickitat River hatchery in January. The hatchery site is located on the reservation but will be open to the public for fishing and rafting.

The hatchery has been under state control for 50 years. The state will retain some operational duties at the site.
