Two separate hunting accidents involving young tribal members have officials with the San Carlos Apache Tribe of Arizona concerned.

On Sunday, a 24-year-old tribal member mistook his father for an elk and fatally shot him. A similar accident involving two young tribal members resulted in the death of one hunter in October.

The tribe's acting chief of police said hunting accidents have been rare on the reservation up until recently. The tribe's Recreation and Wildlife Department offers an annual hunting safety course and is now requiring all hunters to wear an orange cap and an orange vest or jacket during hunting season in light of the two accidents.
