Mayan woman reunited with children taken from her

A Mayan Indian woman from Guatemala whose children were taken away from her after she was deported was reunited with her family.

Mercedes Santiago-Felipe was living in Nebraska when child service workers questioned her treatment of her son and daughter. But because only speaks Mayan and understands little English and Spanish, she didn't know was happening.

The state eventually charged her with child abuse and the federal government deported her for missing an asylum hearing. The state then terminated her parental rights in proceedings in which she was denied due process, the Nebraska Supreme Court later ruled.

Santiago-Felipe was deported three years ago. Her son is now 10 and her daughter is now 6. They are living in Nebraska.
