Northern Cheyenne Tribe targets child abuse

The Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana has started a new program aimed at reducing child abuse on the reservation.

The tribe has partnered with the Bureau of Indian Affairs to bring a child protection officer to the reservation. Ronald Haugen, a BIA police officer, will work on abuse cases, track sexual offenders and provide prevention education to schools and the community.

The program is the first of its kind for the BIA's Rocky Mountain and Great Plains region.
