Navajo college student sees bright future in television

Elliott Tso, a student at San Juan College in New Mexico, is hoping to bring more culturally-relevant programing to television viewers on the Navajo Nation.

Tso knows realizing his dream will be difficult. But he takes inspiration from people like Mary Kim Titla, a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe who is the first Native American television broadcaster in a top-10 market. Titla works with KPNX-NBC in Phoenix.

Tso, a graduate of the Academy of Radio and TV Broadcasting in Phoenix, also says his experience with the UNITY minority journalists association was positive. He attended the recent convention in Washington, D.C., where he learned more about television broadcasting. He wants to bring some of those ideas to Navajo Nation Channel 5.
