Northwest Indian College gets $1.2M federal grant


The Northwest Indian College in Washington has received a $1.2 million grant from the Department of Education.

The college will use the money to expand the campus on the Lummi Reservation. The Center for Student Success, the school's student services center, will break ground next year.

Construction on a $2.3 million student residence, a $350,000 child-care center and a $750,000 classroom an office building is set to being next month. Funding for these projects is coming from the Lummi Nation, loans, grants and other federal funds.

NIC is chartered by the Lummi Nation and works with other Washington tribes.
