Arizona opposing tribe's trust land acquisition

The state of Arizona has filed two challenges to the Yavapai-Apache Nation's request to have 1,169 acres placed in trust.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the application in June. But the state, the Salt River Project and local landowners are appealing the decision.

The tribe plans to use most of the land for agricultural and residential use with 70 acres for commercial use. The reservation currently has 652 acres in trust.
