Minority journalists gather for UNITY conference Wednesday, August 4, 2004 UNITY 2004, the largest gathering of minority journalists, is taking place in Washington, D.C., this week. Nearly 7,000 Native American, African-American, Asian-American and Hispanic journalists have registered for UNITY 2004 It is the third time the four major associations representing the minority journalists have met. President George W. Bush, Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry and Secretary of State Colin Powell are among those who will address the conference. More than 100 news organizations will also be on hand to recruit. The Native American Journalists Association has arranged several events and panels. Topics include federal recognition, disenrollment, the Native vote and free press in Indian Country. The conference runs August 4-August 8.
