Judge dismisses Wyandotte Nation's claim in Kansas

A federal judge in Kansas dismissed the Wyandotte Nation's lawsuit claiming 1,920 acres in downtown Kansas City.

According to The Kansas City Star, U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia said the tribe filed the suit too late. The tribe should have made its case to the Indian Claims Commission, the judge reportedly ruled.

The tribe, based in Oklahoma, has sought to reassert ties to ancestral land in Kansas. The tribe has trust land in downtown Kansas City. But state officials shut down a Class II gaming facility the tribe opened there.
