Police keep close watch on tribal firework sales

As the July 4 holiday approaches, police in Washington are busy patrolling areas near reservations where fireworks sales are legal.

Police can't stop tribal vendors from selling fireworks. But they keep a close eye at fireworks stands to make sure buyers don't light them off the reservation, where they may be banned.

The Muckleshoot Tribe provides a fenced-off area where people can ignite their purchases. The tribe's fireworks commissioner said she doesn't mind that outside police come around every now and then.
