Signatures on Pala Tribe's petition validated

The Pala Band of Mission Indians cleared one hurdle on Thursday with the validation of signatures on the tribe's petition against a landfill.

But attorneys in San Diego County are still deciding whether the petition will be placed on the November ballot. The company that wants to build the landfill says the tribe incorrectly described where parts of the landfill will be located.

The tribe is worried the landfill will pollute the reservation's sole source of water. The landfill would be located near two sacred sites, Gregory Mountain and Medicine Rock.
