Two Democratic senators are questioning why Bureau of Indian Affairs head Dave Anderson spent $28,000 to send top officials to a leadership seminar.

Anderson said he sent 14 central office employees to a seminar run by motivational speaker Tony Robbins. Participants were allowed the chance to run barefoot atop a bed of hot coals and attended sessions to "re-ignite the passion in your physical relationships," the Associated Press reported.

"I've been through it four times. I think it made a huge difference in my life," the BIA head told the AP

But Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) said the expenditure was a waste of money. They said the $28,000 could have been used to pay the annual salary of a a fifth-grade school teacher on a reservation.
