Minneapolis Indian school shows promise

The Anishinabe Academy in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is drawing praise from the community after a promising first year.

The school's predecessor, Four Winds American Indian Magnet School, was shut down last year amid growing problems. It reopened in a new building with a new principal, Mike Huerth, who is Ojibwe.

The school did not meet its testing goals for the first year but students showed improvements on some standardized tests. On the eighth-grade Basic Skills Test, 45 percent passed the reading portion and 40 percent passed the math portion.
