Inuits in Canada vote on $156M land claim settlement

Turnout was reportedly strong among Inuits in Newfoundland and Labrador who were asked to vote on a land claim settlement with the government.

The deal would turn over 15,000 square kilometers of land and 50,000 square kilometres of ocean. The Labrador Inuit Association would exercise self-governance over the territory.

The Canadian government will provide $156 million to carry out the settlement.
