Couple taps tribal traditions for unique wedding

David Boxley, 52, and Lorene Hanlon, 33, got married on Saturday at a day-long ceremony that blended elements of Tsimshian, Tlingit and Western culture.

Boxley, a member of the Tsimshian Tribe, and his family were responsible for most of the wedding. His family presented "honor payments" to the bride and her relatives. The gifts included bentwood boxes specially-designed for each recipient.

Hanlon, a member of the Tlingit Tribe, joked that the couple could have just gotten married in Las Vegas. But as artist, both wanted a ceremony that reflected their traditions.
