Editorial: Mohegan Tribe's trust request good news

The Mohegan Tribe's request to have 75 acres put into trust is "good news" for the city of Norwich, The Norwich Bulletin says in an editorial.

Since 27 acres of the tribe's request are within Norwich, the city would become a "casino host community," the paper says. That would increase the city's share of the slot machine revenues generated by the state's two casinos.

"The city should receive more of the Mohegan Pequot Fund, although just how much is uncertain," the paper notes.

The rest of the tribe's request is in the city of Montville, which receives $500,000 a year under a special arrangement with the tribe.
