The House voted 216-213 on Tuesday night to approve a $2.4 trillion budget for fiscal year 2005.

All Democrats and nine Republicans voted against the measure, which faces a tough vote in the Senate. Conservative Senate Democrats are already saying they will oppose it.

Republicans themselves battled over the budget, with House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Illinois) criticizing Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) for his opposition to President Bush's continued tax cuts, which are included in the House package. Hastert also suggested McCain was unpatriotic for his criticism of the war in Iraq.
