Anderson meets with Kickapoo Tribe over water woes

The Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas asked assistant secretary Dave Anderson on Thursday for help in addressing chronic drought conditions on the reservation.

The tribe wants the Bureau of Indian Affairs to secure land for a reservoir. The land would have to be taken asserting eminent domain.

According to the Associated Press, Anderson said he would help the tribe find a solution but was noncommittal on the eminent domain issue. "That's a question for our solicitor's office," he was quoted as saying.

Anderson is in Kansas today to speak at the commencement exercises of Haskell Indian Nations University.
