Students quiz candidates for Red Lake tribal election


Four candidates for chairman of the Red Lake Nation council in Minnesota were quizzed by students at a forum on Wednesday night.

The candidates stressed the importance of youth. Ramona Desjarlait said she wants to encourage youth to learn tribal language and traditions. Roman �Ducker� Stately supported the creation of a cultural immersion camp.

Bobby Whitefeather, a former chairman, promoted job opportunities for youth within the tribal government, Floyd �Buck� Jourdain said he wants to improve education and opportunities for young people.

The election is May 19.
