The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday heard oral arguments in the case testing the secrecy of Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force.

Two groups want to know the names and roles of private citizens who consulted with the panel. They believe oil, gas and energy interests were behind the policy Cheney eventually released.

The White House won't release the names. Solicitor General Ted Olson argued yesterday that disclosing the information in a court setting would intrude on the executive branch.

A federal judge ordered the White House to release the information. Even though that type of decision cannot normally be appealed, the Bush administration challenged it anyway.
