Passamaquoddy chief wants Native role recognized

The chief of a Passamaquoddy First Nation in New Brunswick wants the Canadian government to recognize the role Natives played in helping the first French settlers.

Hugh Akagee says the French would not have made it without the help of the Passamaquoddy people. He wants some of the $10 million the government is spending on the Acadie 400 celebration to educate others on First Nations.

Akagee is chief of the Saint Croix Scoudouc Band, which is not federally recognized by Canada.
