The Montana Political Practices Commission is investigating whether an Oglala Lakota tribal member qualifies to run for public office in the state.

Dave Mihalic, a former National Park Service superintendent, is running as lieutenant governor. He is on the ticket with Republican governor candidate Pat Davison.

A Republican opponent to Davison filed a complaint, saying that Mihalic doesn't meet the state's residency requirement. Louise Galt says Mihalic was employed by the NPS in California two years ago this November, barely missing a deadline to qualify as a lieutenant governor candidate.
