Apache president asks Cheney for help with police


The president of the Jicarilla Apache Nation of New Mexico is asking Vice President Dick Cheney for help in battling "corruption" within the tribe The Albuquerque Journal reports.

President Claudia Vigil-Muniz said federal intervention is needed to take control of the tribe's police department. Two police officers were fired last year but were later reinstated by five council members.

A Cheney spokesperson told the paper the letter was referred to the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
