Coushatta Tribe locks out chairman who resigned

Lovelin Poncho may have been joking when he said he resigned as chairman of the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana. But tribal members are taking his departure seriously.

The locks were changed on Poncho's office and his secretary was sent home, The Alexandria Town Talk reported. Council members sent a letter to the Bureau of Indian Affairs on Monday informing the agency of Poncho's resignation.

Tribal members are upset with the spending habits of Poncho and William Worfel, a council member. An internal audit showed the two spent $18 million on lobbyists and lawyers in just a two-year period. Worfel also allegedly resigned.
