Concerns over mad cow spark interest in bison

Some tribes are seeing renewed interest in their bison herds, thanks in part to the recent mad cow scare.

The manager for the Crow Tribe's herd hopes to capitalize on the trend. Leroy Stewart says cattle farmers are talking about getting into the buffalo market, which he hopes will lead to a rise in bison prices.

The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin has seen increases in sales. The manager attributes the interest to health-conscious consumers.

Fred DuBray, executive director of the InterTribal Bison Cooperative, says concerns over mad cow disease will likely help small bison producers, rather than tribes.
