Ponca Tribe urges Indians to become foster parents

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is urging more Native families to become foster parents.

The tribe held a gathering yesterday to promote foster families. "I think all children should be able to have care and nurturing and love," Chairman Mark Peniska was quoted as saying.

Nationwide, there are few Indian foster families but many Indian children in need. In many states, Indian children are disproportionately represented in the child welfare system.
