Tex McDonald, the disputed former chairman of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians in California, is trying to get his tribe's casino reopened.

McDonald no longer serves as chairman of one of the factions on the reservation but he remains on his group's council. After being released from jail earlier this month, he met with his rivals to talk about the future of the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino.

"Our goal is to open the casino, that's what our council wants, to open the casino," McDonald told KFSN. "But everybody has to work together to do it. That is the main problem we are facing right now."

McDonald's faction clashed with another one last October, a dispute that led to the closure of the casino. He told KFSN that he has not returned to the facility since he got out of jail.

McDonald pleaded guilty to a charge of false imprisonment for his role in the incident. He avoided a third felony that would have invoked the state's three strikes law and required a life sentence.

McDonald spent about eight months in jail.
