Madera County filed a lawsuit in state court on Tuesday to stop construction at the casino owned by the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians.
The county claims the work is occurring on land that is not held in trust. A stop-work notice was issued to the tribe and the tribe's contractor.
The tribe previously filed a lawsuit in federal court against the county. An attorney said the new suit should be heard at the federal level.
