After losing a casino referendum on Election Day, the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island is debating whether to accept payments from a racino.
Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas previously refused the money. He characterized it as a handout and as a way to get the tribe to drop its casino bid.
State lawmakers required the Lincoln Park to share some of its revenues with the tribe after they authorized slot machines at the racetrack. The payments could run as high as $10 million a year.
