Letter: Media unfair to Mississippi Choctaws

"The Clarion-Ledger "slash" anti-Choctaw gaming newspaper is only trying to hurt the Choctaw self-determination. The editorials use the words "unfair," "needs the most" and mentions the residents of Jackson County's not wanting gaming.

The editorials are lobbying for the Gulf Coast gaming market. They fall short of calling it "an Indian uprising."

We can be one of the state's largest employers, best corporate citizens and help others in need, but The Clarion-Ledger still sees us as Choctaws Indians."

"I do whole heartedly agree with a lot of Cyrus Ben's comments about what the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has done for the state and will continue to do in the coming years.

We do not sit idly by and wait for government handouts; we go by our motto, "Choctaw Self-Determination," because if we didn't, we would truly be extinct by now."
