Republican lawmakers are calling for the Legislature to reconvene to consider new tribal gaming compacts.
Senate GOP leader Dick Ackerman and Assembly GOP leader George Plescia said the compacts are important to the future of the state. They asked Democratic leaders to immediately call a new session.
Five tribes signed compacts to expand their facilities and share revenues with the state. A sixth tribe's agreement called for a small casino.
Democratic leaders blocked the compacts amid complaints from labor unions who said the provisions didn't protect workers.
If the session isn't called, lawmakers can consider the compacts when they reconvene in January 2007.
