The Whatcom County Council voted Tuesday to ask the Nooksack Tribe to consult with the county about a proposed casino.
Debate lasted more than an hour on the resolution, The Bellingham Herald reported. At least one council member said the measure was unnecessary and would only create a climate of "fear."
The tribe plans the 35,800-square-foot Northwood Crossing Casino on 20 acres. The land was taken into trust in 1984.
