Plans by the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma to open casinos in Ohio face challenges in the courts and in the public arena.
The tribe filed a land, hunting and fishing rights lawsuit in Ohio. The tribe says it will settle for gaming rights.
But legal experts say the case could be thrown out due to the U.S. Supreme Court's refusal to hear a tribal land claim. Experts say the tribe faces tough ground ahead as the state seeks to dismiss the lawsuit.
The tribe also has to convince local officials that its casino plans are sound. The city council in Canal Fulton, one of the sites under consideration, is set to vote tonight on proposed memorandum of understanding with the tribe.
