"As for the Seneca Indian Nation's planned downtown gambling casino, well, the forces of opposition certainly are battling tooth and nail against it. (And Albany makes matters even tougher for casino backers by deciding to hog most of the revenue that does not go in the Senecas' pockets, rather than put most of the badly needed cash into Buffalo's coffers.)
Anyway, casino opponents have several good arguments against a gambling hall likely to cater mostly to the locals. The problem is that little if anything has emerged from that camp in the way of an alternative. The casino, at least, would provide jobless Buffalonians with employment and a decent benefits package.
If you're going to say "no" to a casino, then you must come up with something in its stead. The times, the place, the situation demand it.
We're great at saying "no." We're the world champions. If all that negative energy were to be spent on forward movement, just think where we might go."
