Over 18 churches and religious groups in the Grand Forks, North Dakota, area have come out against an off-reservation casino proposed by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa.
The clergy say they are concerned about the impact of gambling on potential addicts. They want city leaders to reject the tribe's proposal.
Meanwhile, a man launched a petition on the issue. He says he has collected more than 4,000 signatures in opposition.
The tribe operates a casino on its reservation, about 187 miles from Grand Forks. Other tribes in the state and the region oppose the proposed casino.
