The Bureau of Indian Affairs held a hearing on Tuesday to take comments about a proposed off-reservation casino in the Bay Area.
The Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians wants to build a 25,000-square-foot casino with 2,000 slot machines, poker and other table games. The tribe has chosen a site in Richmond, about 100 miles away from the tribe's ancestral lands, according to The Contra Costa Times.
The BIA is taking comments on the environmental impact report for the casino. Opponents say the report fails to take into account public safety issues.
