The Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island and its supporters launched yet another campaign to legalize the first full-fledged casino in the state.
The tribe has been seeking a casino for more than a decade. For the past five years, the effort has been derailed, either by state lawmakers or the courts.
This time, the tribe and its gaming partner, Harrah's Entertainment, hope to get around legal concerns by amending the state constitution to allow the tribe to open a casino that will be regulated by the state. The proposed amendment wouldn't mention Harrah's, according to a consultant for the tribe.
