Tribes, county cooperate to fight casino crime

A partnership between several California tribes and Riverside County has been so successful that it is doubling in size, a deputy district attorney said at the Western Indian Gaming Conference in Palm Springs.

The task force was started a year ago to prosecute crimes at tribal casinos. The unit is entirely funded by tribal gaming revenues.

Arthur M. Chang, the Riverside County deputy district attorney, said the unit's budget will grow to $1.15 million, double its current budget, for the upcoming fiscal year. More than 500 cases have been prosecuted in the past year, he said.
