The Skokomish Tribe of Washington is reviving proposals for off-reservation casinos now that the state has agreed to one for the Spokane Tribe.
The Skokomish Tribe says the Spokane compact has opened the doors for an expansion of gaming. The Skokomish have revived plans for a casino resort in Hood Canal and also want a casino near a proposed NASCAR site.
Gov. Christine Gregoire (D) has yet to sign the Spokane compact that was negotiated. It allows the tribe to open a casino on off-reservation trust land in a Spokane suburb and expand its gaming operation. In return, the tribe will share revenues with the state.
