The opening of a new casino on the Winnebago Reservation in Nebraska has been delayed, possibly up to a week.
The Winnebago Tribe hoped to have the Class II facility up and running today. But chairman John Blackhawk told The Sioux City Journal it was taking longer than expected to install the machines and other equipment.
The state is also verifying whether the facility will offer legal gaming. The tribe is offering 39 electronic Class II machines, by manufacturer Rocket Bingo.
The tribe says the facility could expand if Nebraska voters authorize Class III gaming at the polls in November. Backers of a petition to legalize casinos and slot machines turned in 640,000 signature on Thursday.
