Southern California tribes who haven't signed new gaming compacts with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) are facing pressure from local officials.
Supervisors in Riverside County offered to help Schwarzenegger negotiate deals with tribes in their area. At least five area tribes met with state negotiators but failed to come to an agreement.
Three tribes in San Diego County and two in northern California signed compacts on Monday. The deal calls for them to make a $1 billion payment up front and share a portion of slot machine revenues in exchange for unlimited gaming on their lands.
